Graduated!

It has been just over a month since I graduated from Goddard College with my M.F.A. in Creative Writing!

Since that time I have applied to teach at six (6) colleges, interviewed with two (2), and gotten Adjunct positions with both!

I start at one college next week and the other the last week of August.

Sadly, I haven't gotten much writing done, but I am hoping to correct that shortly.

Sorry I've been away for so long. Life, it sometimes takes you for a rollercoaster ride you can't get off.

UPDATE

Greetings! Just a quick update after almost 10 months of being away from blogging.

I still have not finished graduate school. I am still at work on manuscript revisions. I am currently on a Leave of Absence from college. 2006 has been a pretty dismal year, all things considered and I just wish it would hurry up and end.

Here's a little bit of writing. Just some things I was thinking about one day.

Musings

We are all out there, searching for something, hoping for some good and true thing to enter our lives. But we are all liars, living in worlds of make-believe, trusting in our own false strength to see us through.

We are a colony of dreamers, a pack of schemers, a gaggle of false gods. We enter, take, and leave, nothing left behind, devouring soul and spirit alike, hatred running true. We are all that is false and truth. We are all hiding behind a mask, wearing a cloak of invisibility, hiding while screaming in our finest gear,

"I am here!, I am here!"

The Draft is Done!

Finally! After over two years of blood, sweat and tears, the draft of my manuscript for grad school is done.

Now all I have to do is print it out and ship it off.

I feel like I've birthed a literary baby!

Rosa Parks Dies at 92

I know that this is not literary news. But I have to express my deeply felt sadness at the demise of Rosa Parks. It distressed me to know that, in her last years of life, she did not live well.

"In the last decade, Mrs. Parks was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. But even as she remained an icon of the textbooks, her final years were troubled. She was hospitalized after a 28-year-old man beat her in her home and stole $53. She had problems paying her rent, relying on a local church for support until last December, when her landlord stopped charging her rent."

  • Her act of defiance in 1955 helped shape the Civil Rights movement. She did such wonderful things in her lifetime. The only comfort is knowing that her legacy of peaceful protest in the face of injustice will live on.

Rest well, Mrs. Parks. You deserve it.
